1995 gmc safari transmission swap

Will the tranny from a 1990 safari AWD work in a 1995 AWD? or can it be made to work? any info on which will work or others that will. How do I find out what the tranny is in either vehicle? THanks

NO, the 95 has an electronic tranny and I'm not real sure what other years will work as there are quite a few changes done to these trannies. I would think a 94 - 96 would work out of any rear wheel drive GM, but you might have to change tailshafts

My reply might be too late but here you go,
Jeremy is right, GM changed this unit in 93.
92 was the last year that is hydralicly shift, 93-94 all electronic Non PWM, 95-up electronic with PWM and GM went back to Non PWM again in 99-00,
This mean the PCM program differently to acomandate these changes, so make you put in what you pull out.
