Car stops!

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I don't know much about cars, but I've been having a problem with my mx-3. While I was driving, it turned off on me. It's never done this before but anyway one mechanic told me it was my distributor, and another said my fuel injectors might be clogged. I have no idea who to believe, and now I'm kind of paranoid that it's gonna turn off on me again. Any suggestions? Thanks...

Well, it could be quite a few things. Does the check engine light come on? Do you have a rough idle before/after the car stalled, or is it rough all the time? What are you idling at?

Nope, the check engine light doesn't go on. It just turns off sometimes while I'm driving it, but when I try to start it again it starts fine. I'm idling at 1000, but sometimes it's rough, and when I'm stoppped (like at a light or something), the car is a little shaky.

Re: Car stops!

automatic or manual? cuz automatics sometimes are pretty shaky even when they're fine. What area are you in?

Yea I'll just be driving, and it turns off at any given time. If it is the distributor, is it true that it eventually will not even turn on anymore?

Ok, now can you change just the ignitor or would I have to change the whole distributor?

the ignitor itself can be change but you got to tear the distributor apart...it's an electronic piece inside

Re: Car stops!

it's easier than it sounds... I've done it on a Church Van in AUTO class.... it's pretty easy (just mark your wires and where they hook up to)
