To send an SMS to an American... ?

I'm trying to send a texto to an American frien living in Florida. His number is : XXX XX XX. But I don't know if there is a "prefix", the prefix for the USA are +1, if I'm not wrong (I'm sending that from France [+33]), but for Florida ?....
Could someone help me ?

You need a 1 - (area code) which is 3 numbers, and then his 7 numbers.

Should look like this. 1-123-321-4444

But alas I don't know the area code. They live near Lakeland in Florida (between Orlando and Tampa). But is it the same code and rules for a mobile phone ? and can you recognize a mobile phone with the number ?
