Question tps..... ????? what????

ok.. well ive figured out what is wrong with my car. The Throttle Position sensor. ( with the helpful people of autozone). Now my delema is; what the hell is it? what does it do? where does it go and how do i replace it? I checked the price there at autozone and they want 50$ for one. Is that too much? Any one out there replaced one before? please help a hopeless man. yes i am desperate to get my car running right again.

Re: tps..... ????? what????

the throttle position sensor is a sensor that is located on the intake manifold/throttle body to tell the ecu what degree the throttle is at so that your timing advance and all that shit will be correct. if your car is a non-turbo, it should be near the back of the intake manifold/throttle body, more to the right side. it's just 2 screws and it pops right off and then you pop the new one back in and the 2 screws go right back in and you should be good to go. as far as the price goes, autozone is pretty good about shit like that so i'd say just buy it and get ur car running again.

Re: tps..... ????? what????

i checked on my eclipse today and the tps is on the throttle body on the very back, it's the top of the 2, there's one a little lower but the tps is the upward one.

Can anybody provide any pictures of what this looks like because I am trying to make some sense out of this but I have no idea where or what exactly I am looking for because I am trying to find the TPS. Even holding my hand and step by step scavenger hunt instructions would be great.

The car will run all day without a TPS. Especially a 1g. 2Gs (probably NTs too) also use the TPS for the throttle closed positions switch, so having a bad one can prevent the ECU from going into closed loop idle control. But to say that the car runs fine without it doesnt prove that its bad, in this case.
