Unhappy transmisson too much trans fluid bad?????

I bought a '88 cutlass supreme FE3 automatic last year for 100 they said ididnt drive after they let it sit for a year well i got it running but noticed it didnt shift. iv been driving it round the block bout once a week to keep everything in chec and i went to check the trans fluid and it looks almost new but its pretty high on the dip stick anyone know if that could be the cause of the not shifting cause the car runs good at 130000 w/ the 2.8L engine. gonna try to suck the extra trans fluid out w/ a hose. but reply thankx.

Re: transmisson too much trans fluid bad?????

That is a good idea. Too much fluid may be the problem but you may need to clean the valve body. Sometimes the valves will stick and not allow it to shift. By removing the valve body, easy to do, pull it apart and clean the individual valves. Be careful not to mix up the springs and it should work for you. Good Luck
