loose steering

1997 cherokee. seems like i turn the steering wheel a lot to get a response from the tires. is there an adjustment in the box to tighten up the steering gears?

First, are your tie-rods,ball jionts, and drag links in good shape? does it have a tendancy to "float" while your driving it?
