cleaning out the engine
I just got my van back from a local mechanic.
He said the best way to clean out the engine on my 97 grand voyager was to add one quart of transmission fluid when changing the engine oil. My van holds 5 qts of oil so I would use 4 qts oil and 1 qt trans. fluid. Has anyone else ever done this? He said it is a great way to clean the engine and oil filter because of the detergent in the trans fluid. |

Re: cleaning out the engine
I think your machanic is nuts! There are detergents in the oil you use and should work well to keep the engine clean. If you really want to clean the engine AMSOIL has a cleaner that can be used to change to synthetic oil that is designed to remove deposits from inside the engine. You cannot drive while it is in the engine but it does work. Of course once you complete the process you need to change the oil immediately.
