Exclamation Bad Starter and reversed batery!

My car had a bad starter (hit it with a hammer to start and it helped).

I bought a new one, installed it... but i accidently hooked up the battery backwards. I blew the 100A Main fuse, so i replaced it and then smoke came out of the battery. I took it out immediately.

I put in the battery the right way, i got it at 12.00 Volts reading on it.
and the 100A fuse is good now. However nothing works... nothing electrical.. no hood light, no radio, no dome light... but the fuses under the steering wheel are good.

can someone help me?
as far as i could see, the starter is hooked up right but i could be wrong.

I hooked up the spade connector right, and i hooked up the top most screw to the metal part i think was attached to it. and the nut right below it has a wire going into the starter, wich i hooked up to nothing..

i really need help... i cant afford to bring it into the mechanic's.. i spent the last of what little money i had on my new starter...

On some cars, there's a "fusible link" which looks like a piece of wire, but it's actually a fuse designed to prevent fires, etc. It usually connects right off the starter relay mounted on the fender. The link will be wrapped in heat shrink tube and will be connected directly to the same terminal the large positive battery lead connects to. DO NOT simply "bypass" this!! It is there to save your butt from getting caught in a fiery mess if the electrical system goes haywire. Consult your Chilton's/Haynes for the proper amperage and replace it correctly.
Let us know how it works for you. Good luck!!

Re: Bad Starter and reversed batery!

First, how do you know that your new fuse is not blown also? If you are geting no electrical power then that means that some where in your fuse box a fuse is blown. Your car has many fuses. Not all of them are under your steering wheel. Do you have an electrical multimeter?

Re: Bad Starter and reversed batery!

AMAZING i didnt fry my car lol... it turns out that battery was dead from trying to start it so much and didnt damage my car from reverse battery polarity thank god. my cpu still works.
Now the only thing i need to figure out is why the "room fuse" under the steering wheel keeps blowing as soon as you put one in. anyone got any ideas? its my dome light, radio, door alarm, and i think thats it....

Re: Bad Starter and reversed batery!

The only reason a fuse ever blows is because there is too much power going through the fuse. i suggest looking in a manual for a wiring diagram of the fuse and seeing if maybe ther is another fuse in the circut. You may have blown that one. You don't have to buy a manual you can usualy get ahold of one at your library-good luck
