Lightning Engine Question

Just a quick question here. On the 99+ 5.4 Lightnings, what kind of crank, rods, and pistons are used? I'm planning a high performance supercharged 5.4 project, and was wondering if they would be strong enough to stand up to it, or if I'd be better off buying aftermarket internals. Any help would be great, thanks.

I'm going to assume that you're building a better edition of the Lightning with a stock one as the model.

Replacing the internals will depend on how much power/boost you are planning to be running. Something simple like changing the pulleys/intake/exhaust you can stick with the original stuff.

Going from 300hp to 500hp for example through supercharger changes and such things means you're probably going to have to change about EVERYTHING inside the motor.

I think this question would be better posted in the racing forum, under the drag racing forum for example, just because they're gonna know alot more about this kind of this then i will (just to name someone).

Re: Lightning Engine Question

we have a 2003 Lightning I think all Internals are just like the non supercharged 5.4L. all the lightning is, is a supercharged version of the 5.4

Re: Lightning Engine Question

The Lightning uses FORGED: Pistons, rods, and a steel (forged?) crank, that are TOTALLY different from the non supercharged engines.

If you try to SC a N/A modular engine, you will find they break about 350 RWHP. Sooner if they knock, MUCH sooner. Tuning is CRITICAL, and only ONE guy, and his group at Superchips Custom Tuning can get into every part of the EEC to tune correctly.

There is getting to "to work", and there is getting it right. Sort of "tooning" vs. "tuning".
