Question Battery keeps dying is it my ecm?

I've been having alot of problems with my car. my battery keeps dying, i took it to the mechanic and they said that its my ecu that been causing my battery to die. ive asked around and people have been telling me "that my ecu cant make my battery die out" and i dont know if the mechanic is lieing to me to get money. And i also heard that if my belt is worn out its not moving my alt. fast enough and that can cause my battery to die. Can anyone help me?

is it a new battery? if its not, then just replace the battery....i suggest getting the aptima (think thats the name) battery because its light weight and very "high tech"....

Re: Battery keeps dying is it my ecm?

take ur car to autozone and test your battery and alternator! save u a few hundred dollars on mechanic work. i have never heard of an ECU posing problems for a battery, unless there is a short somewhere. have any electrical work done lately? an exposed wire touching any other wire or metal will cause ur battery to die-mine did when i rewired my headlights. also make sure ur belts are good. if they are slipping, which u would hear a loud squealing noise, then it would not charge ur battery. i would put my money on a bad battery, alternator, or a short in your wiring!

Re: Battery keeps dying is it my ecm?

Make sure there is not some little dome light or dash light staying on that is repeatedly draining the battery. The little plastic screw on my brake pedal assembly broke, and it was the thickness of this screw that pushed in the button to turn off the brake lights when you aren't pressing the pedal! SO my brake lights weren't turning off, and were draining the battery. It may be something much smaller and more subtle, so look carefully before taking extreme (ahem expensive) measures!

Unhappy

I did go to auto zone my alternator tested good and i have a new battery. ya i did have a lot of wires check and there was 5 shorts and they traced it to my ecm. and i just wanted to know that if my wires can mess up my ecm. when i start my car my belts squeeks a lot for about 5 - 10 sec. i will get that checked but i dont thinks that causing it.

sounds like you need a new belt or to tighten it down more. i would suggest that you get a new belt, better safe than sorry. shorts would cause ur battery to constantly die. i would check fuses and make sure everything is properly hooked up to the ECU before replacing it. also make sure there are no brainers like a penny in ur cig lighter or anything easy and stupid like that.

yea those pennies or dimes in the cig lighter are a bitch. i had that happen and it drove me insane. one minute my gauges would work and the next minute nothing. my battery would die everyday at work and i finally had my uncle who's a mech look at it and he found the penny and that solved all my problems.
