Am I getting ripped?

Hello! I was looking into getting an MP3 deck for my car and it turns out that the dealer guy told me that it will cost me $200 dollars JUST for installation due to, sending the actual stock radio back to GM, and then wiring it to the back trunk or something gay like that. He said all the 99+ have that problem and if its not done that way it can disable airbags and such... I want to know if this is true, or is this guy trying to haggle me for money?

I'd appreciate the help!!

Re: Car Deck Problem

i don't know cause i've never have this done. but i saw nobody replied, so i figured i would. a lot of ppl do this type of stuff themselves, so maybe check if any of your friends can do it or if you can learn? or if you are afraid of that check with other dealers

Re: Car Deck Problem

the only things that happens is your doors chimes don't ding anymore when the doors are open, and headlights stay one even when you don't have them turned on until car is shut off. that is the only thing that happened to me and as you can see it's nothing major. the chevy dealer is full of shit they told me i couldn't install a aftermarket shift knob in my car because all kinds of shit would happen, i learned to never listen to the chevy dealer. and if your going to do it don't have it done at the chevy dealer that is ridiculous 200.00 just have a friend do it or a stereo shop. it would be a whole hell of a lot cheaper. hope this helped. stacy

I was told the same thing and instead of risking it i had the factory installed in my trunk. Not a big deal though, not noticable unless someone looks for it. And even at a car audio shop it's still pretty expensive. Over $120 for mine.

Good Luck

Thanks!

Thanks! Yeah, they told me about the same thing... It's not going to be too much at an audio shop. One told me I might as well not put one in because it was 200.00 I went somewhere else and they said they could do it and those minor problems would occur. Which is no big deal. Thank you for the advice, I just needed opinions to see which option I would choose...

Re: Car Deck Problem

If you don't want to pay those 200 dollars there is a 80 dollar solution, for 80 dollars you can get the wiring harness with the door chimes relay, and the switch for the lights. Look online for it.
