GM used an X shaped frame, they called it a 'cruciform' frame, from '58 to '60 (?) for all their cars.
I got my 1963 'Motor' service manual out, as it covers these cars. They show hoists lifting the car up with pads on the front control arms and on the rear axle. It looks as if theu use these U shaped adaptors on the pads to better hold onto the car.
A mechanic buddy of mine (with a 2 post hoist) had a customer with a (pink!!) '58 Cad and just lifted it from the frame in the conventional manner, with no problem.
To me though, the frame rails are so close together, it may not be stable, if you are doing more extreme servicing.
