How to...Power Windows
Hi all,
Can anyone give me instructions, or tell me where to find them, on how to check the power window switch and motor? I know one or both of them are bad it's just a matter of determining how much I will have to spend to fix the car... 2001 Grand Am GT, 4Dr, 6 cyl., Auto Thanks, Rick Last edited by geodiggr; 07-06-2004 at 09:46 PM. |

Re: How to...Power Windows
All four power windows or all two power windows not working? If so, probably it is just a blown fuse or relay.
If one of the power windows is not working then more than likely the power window motor regulator is bad $50. The power window motor regulator is held down by four rivets. You have to drill out the rivets. I did not put a new rivets but I used (4) 1/4" size bolts and nuts with lock nut washers. Of course you have to remove the door panel first to go to the power window motor regulator. One more thing you need to know is when you put the motor regulator, the gears on the motor regulator must engage the gears of the window arm (it moves the windows up and down). You just basically push hard the window arm gears down (it has powerful springs and so you have to push hard). Once you push the window arm gears down enough then you can put the power window motor regulator's gears to engage both gears. After that then you can safely put the 4 bolts/nuts or rivets if you prefer. |
