hi!

the subwoofer is a homebuilt bass reflex double 10" thingie with lots of potential..

now I got this little problem: when playing music at a any volume, when opening the bootlid, the volume of the bass increases. this can also be heard when opening the front passengerseat door.

if I fold the backseats down, this volumeproblem still occurs..

what to do?

oh, the box were design in a computer at the store so all measurements on the box are correct, and it plays thru the backseat..

I'm not exactly sure what the problem is here. When you say the bass increases, do you mean it gets louder or distorted?

I don't understand cuz, I always thought more base is good, at least in my book. Please explain it more and maybe I can help you.

thats supposed to happen b/c there is more airflow so itll sound louder. i notice a difference when i have my windows down than when i have my windows up. its louder when the windows are down b/c of more airflow. jus like if someone has a blazer for example itll sound louder b/c theres no seat blocking the bass/air from goin through.

That's what I am thinking. I had a Blazer with a system and it was crazy with the bass. But I don't know if that's what he means or if it's something else. Hopefully he'll respond soon.

Okay. The bass will naturally get louder when you open up the space it is in. Not sure exactly what type of vehicle you have but, you have your boxes and then you have a Band Pass. I personally like band passes cause they move a larger volume of air, as in my example of my truck. The bass was ridiculous, I had the setting at -6, and still had an obscene amount of bass. But, if I opened up the rear window, it was all gone. So you see, depending on your application, you'll get that. Since you have a custom made box, if your car has a trunk, you'll keep the bass in there. If you open it up so that the passenger cabin is open to the bass box, you'll get that increase effect. It's moving the air in the cabin. If you want to keep it at a minimal, just leave it enclosed. Hope that helps!

for the protocol: my car is a 4dr saloon.

situation: I'm sitting in the driversseat, playing music. Backseats are in position up, all doors closed. Now, someone outside the car opens my bootlid, and the volumeincrease occurs (backseats still up). The box is still enclosed to the trunk so why oh why does the volume increase in the passengercabin? shouldn't it stay the same??

still confused... please don't think of me as a totall idiot... ;-)

Nah. You have much to go before I call you an idiot!

Let me explain. Pretend your car is like a completely sealed box. The woofer is moving the air that is in the cabin only. When you lower your window or open the doors you open the space the woofer has to work with, thus increasing the volume of air to move. It isn't that something is wrong with your system, just that it is that powerful. I know it bothers you but then again, you did want to get more bass. What I can tell you to do is, if you want to control it more, you can purchase a crossover for your system. Thereby, allowing you to control how much bass comes out. You can also control your mids and highs. A good brand and my choice would be Boston Acoustic.

my amp has a built in crossover, so I'm settled with that for now...
but I just get irritated that my amp is kicking out current to my woofers that's not being used (correction: I cannot hear...)... Just bugs me you now... Well ok, guess I'm gonna have to settle with this for now; Thanks for showing interest in my questions!! thank you!!

You're welcome. As for the built in crossover, trust me, it's not the same. There is a big difference with a separate crossover. But, anyway, enjoy what you got and hopefully, you'll get used to it.
