Angry starts but quickly dies

Alright this is starting to get on my nerves. No one not even honda can help me with out taking all my money so I joined you guys. I have a 94 accord ex coupe. The problem is that as soon as I crank the car it runs for bout 1/2 a second and dies(only in hot and humid climates, starts and runs in the garage) First replacement was the main relay, then the coil (went with a MSD blaster ss external kit). And I still have the problem. Every thing has been tested and taken apart. Only thing left is ICM(ignitor). Any other opinions. Please help.

Re: starts but quickly dies

So your fuel pump relay tests good? that would have been my first answer until I read your full post, as that is usually the number one problem with that symptom, I don't know much about ICM (ignitor) and I guess that one doesn't use a fuel cut off relay ( think only applied to carbureted models) the hot and humid climate statement still makes me suspect the fuel pump relay being flakey. Before a start and die situation do you hear the normal humm and click when key is in ignition position but before actually engaging the starter?

Red face

The fuel pump is making all the noises hummm's and clicks. Also The fuel pressure gauge I have on the fuel rail reads 40psi a good 2 pounds more than stock. Also after a few times of trying to crank the car the fuel pump of relay makes a long humming sound for around 3 seconds.

Re: starts but quickly dies

I'll tell you what.....happened on my civic not but a few days ago, it seems to have been the fuel filter ......

basically, the idea, is that something clogs it up only when the system is first pressurized. Which is why sometimes it'll start fine, and other times, not so fine.....but once going, it'll be in good shape.

If the problem occurs when hot inside the car, the main relay is suspect.....

the other thing to replace in this case, is the cap and rotor. I did that along with my fuel filter and new spark plugs, and the car runs sooo much better now.
