Ferrari
As shown in the current SCC, the Ferrari 360 Modena F1 modified only w/springs, exhaust, and race tires kicked 9 other finely tuned cars including a Mustang w/a blower, a single turbo Supra, twin turbo upgraded 300ZX (damn it!), and a Skyline R33 GT-R.
Now I know the 355 is by no means a 360...but it's very similar...375HP vs. the 400HP...and you can get the same F1 if you so desire...but I like to hear the *snick* *snick* as the shifter goes into gear. |

Both Ferrari and Honda are in Formula 1. Both make great cars. Both the F355 and NSX Zero are awesome. But I'd take the F355.
Note: with out the NSX we wouldn't have cars like the 360 Modena though. |

The NSX ushered in a new era for supercars, ones that were both seriously great in most performance categories but also user friendly and incredibly reliable. Ferrari has since focused on similar goals, which is one of the primary reasons why the 360 is so highly acclaimed.

The NSX started a new era of speed machines. It's almost like the important secrets Honda learned in Formula 1-that made the NSX- showed... or guided, manufactures a certain direction when making a sports car that's focused for a small group. Without the NSX, the Corvette would not have 405bhp and 1g/skidpad this year. Nore would a sports car concept with finese like the 360 have the thrust and cornering force it does. The NSX was the kid that was push around in school, only used for homework... or in this case, engineerin' stealin'

I dont really know about that....... The F355 didnt do that much less than the 360 does, and in a better body too!
i thought you meant that the NSX showed how to build a truly usable supercar, which in a way it did, if it hadnt been beaten to it by the 911.. i dont think its true to suggest the 911 stole technology from the NSX.. maybe the american cars cos i know very little about them, but definitely not the 996 or 360 im still not really sure what you were getting at... cheers, jay |

I'm not saying the 911 stole NSX tech. I'm saying without the NSX performance cars today would be different. It's really an evocative exotic. Without it, many manufactures wouldn't feel the need to make cars that 'beat' the underdog, the NSX. Ferrari has been in F1 for ages like Honda and they are the champs so I'm not hinting that they 'stole' engineering. But Ferrari, and others, stole a certain concept, or idea, that's unique to the NSX: Usable supercar, with manners, and telepathic handling. The 360 would have been less of a drivers car if Honda hadn't created the NSX. It would have been a 355 with a bigger engine and that's it. As for the 996, well, it's too mature to be a true 911, but new Porsche fans could care less. Get it? Yay or nay?

yay i get it.. i see what you mean but i dont really agree, not entirely anyway. the 550 was created before the 360 and that is a driver's car. so why would the 360 have just been a bigger-engined 355? besides, theres nothing wrong with the 355. i would definitely count that as a driver's car. one thing it doesnt have is day-to-day usability, so in that case ferrari might have been pushed to make a more user-friendly car by the nsx, but thats about it, and even that doesnt stick entirely. after all, 911s have always been around, competing with ferraris, and they are exactly what you described the NSX as being: Usable supercar, with manners, and telepathic handling...
i do agree about the whole underdog thing though, i'd never given that much thought.... cheers, jay |

i hear ya, but do you think they'll ever overcome the image/exclusivity problem?
It's difficult to sell a supercar when it has the same badge on the bonnet as a $10k supermini/hatchback.... i think VW are gonna find that out very soon indeed.... cheers, jay |

This is what I think Honda should do: 1. advertise more of their F1 side and bike sucess 2. give Honda (NOT Acura!!!) an IS300/ 3 series killer (with a Type-R version) 3. give Acura an M3 fighter 4. give the NSX an 8 cylinder and over 350bhp already (!!!) 5. make a cheaper version of the NSX that's a V6 model (assuming they make the NSX a V8 like I think they should) that's under $35-40k. |
