18 year old needs help buying first car

I'm an 18 year old girl shopping for her first car. I can pretty much get any car I want under $40,000 due to the fact that its being funded by my father whom I've just met for the first time last month, and he is pretty well off. It's very tempting to milk him, but since its my first car I know I dont want to risk getting it totalled.

I'm currently considering the 240sx then eventually getting a sr20det swap. I'm also considering an integra with a s15 frontend conversion (I dont like the stock headlights).

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

if you really want a great reliable car and your into imports, then i'd suggest going with an STi, it's a really nice car, all wheel drive, so you can pretty much go anywhere you want, nice stylish body, not to mention it has a 300hp v6....BTW, don't get a honda, you'll regret it, unless it's an s2000, that's about the only new honda that's worth anything

It's not a V6, it's a turbocharged flat-four, making 300 bhp and 300 ft-lb of torque. Still a great car though

Damn girl that is definitely gangsta you talking about the 240 with teh sr20det swap, you know yoru shit!

Id totally reccomend doing the 240 with the swap if your budget was 10 grand, but shit, 40 grand??

Now I know an important thign to consider here is to start out slow, y ou know what I'm saying? I mean shit, with a 40 grand budget check out the WRX STi or the new Evo VIII. If you think you can handle those cars as a first car then shit go for it, but if youre planning to start out slow, the 240sx with the sr20det is a great idea. Want some more reliability? Get the Integra! And are you sure you werent talkign about the JDM conversion instead of the s15? LOL. N ow that I think of it go with the Integra with the JDM conversion if you arent down with the OEM headlights.

Seriously...a boosted Integra?? Dead sexy.

Good luck!

okay. um hmmm. I have to give you credit for knowing your cars so well. I would just like to suggest that you go with something nice, quick, i dont' really know what that would be as far as imports go, but pay close attention to things like the warranty with the vehicle, what insurance will be, check cars.com and see what ratings they give reliability and so on. And for 40,000 you should easily be able to find a car that is exactly as you want it, without having to do any work to it. But if working on your car is what your looking for then i hope you find the right one. Good luck, and have fun. God bless.!

You might want to check out the Volkswagon GTI's. Since you have a lot of money you could probably get a nice twin-turbo kit for it. Oh, and make sure its a new GTI. Just as long as it has a 1.8T or a VR6, watch out for the 2.sl0w.
