System problems
Ok, first off, if a sub is blown it should be obvious right? Well, everything was working fine up until a couple days ago, when I noticed that they weren't working. I went back and checked and there was almost nothing being produced by the subs. I took them out to look them over, and I see no signs of a blown sub, but they are bouncing at higher volumes and it seems like there is no pressure on the inside. My second thought was that they weren't getting enough power. Could something have gone wrong in the wiring to cause less wattage to run to the subs? Or does it sound like the subs are, in fact, blown?

Re: System problems
a wire could have worked itself loose

Re: System problems
Sounds like you shorted out the subs, get a voltage meter

Re: System problems
too many variables thunderchicken...is the amp on? Is the amp getting signal? If the amp is not on is it the power, the ground, or the turn on? Haibane is correct you should use a VOM. Check the impedance of the subs..they should be close to what is listed on them. Meaning a 4ohm sub might read 3.7 or 4.2 it should be very close but is hardly ever exact. You need to check that before you replace your subs.

typically, the DC resistance of a speaker is like 3/4 of the listed impedance

Re: System problems
once you verified your amp is good check your speakers for open, shorts, and grounds

Ok, first question answered..yes the amp is on. Whether or not it is getting the correct power is another question. It is illuminated, as it does when it is on..but who is to say that it is working correctly. I will have a VOM tomorrow, have to get it out of my other car. So, the reading should be at least 3/4 of the listed impedence on the sub? I will check back in the morning, and will give the results sometime tomorrow night to see if it worked or get any other suggestions if not.

Re: System problems
yeah 3/4 is a decent approximation, a 4ohm sub typically reads around 3.2-3.3 ohm when you measure the DC resistance with a multimeter.
