79 problems w/ engine

Let me start out by saying the car isn't mine. I don't deal well w/ the barge on wheels but I'm trying to help a friend out. This is a 425 motor.

1) The engine bubbles coolant from the passenger side cyl bank center top. I'm thinking head gasket, he's thinking cracked head. Opinions? What kind of time frame are we looking at for two mech inclined people? what kinds of special tools are we gonna need? What kind of "while you're in there" work should also be done. Supplies, other gaskets, sealents?

2) Listening to the carb, it makes a massive hissing/sucking noise while at about 1/8-1/4 throttle. What's going on? Is this normal? I looked down and saw nothing plugging the venturis.

3) What's a rebuild on the carb gonna require?

4) This ones a newb question but what's the negative effects of pressure washing the engine? The crud and crap caked EVERYWHERE ranges from about 1/4" thick to at least 5/8" thick. We did pressure wash the underside of the engine and all steering components. Oh man the chunks of crap went all over the place.

5) What's standard compression? I got 120-130 on all cylinders.

Don't worry, more questions will come.
