97 Escort, sporatic heat problem on hills

I am almost ready to give up on my escort. The problem started last year in April. After driving for 2 or 3 hours the car would have problems on hills. The harder you push the gas pedal the slower the car goes...until I would pull over. Let the car sit for 2 minutes and restart. Once I would restart it would be like a new car. UNTIL about 30 minutes later....same problem. I would pull over and restart the car and then it would only be fine for about 15 minutes. So to get to my destination about ever 10 minutes I would have to restart.
So as any girl that cares about her car...I took it to 3 different mechanics…they all said that the problem never happened to them. There are no error codes that show up in the computer. (they think I am crazy) My brother drove it down the highway waiting for the problem to happen with the computer system hooked up inside the car.....And when the car started acting up....no error code showed up!! I don't know what to do?? They said I could replace the fuel system but they don't know if that is really the problem. But all my problems stopped when the cool weather hit! Now that it is summer again......same problem!
Symptoms:
Only in the heat
Usually only going up hills
Most likely on long distance trips
more acceleration going up the hill is worst
the more gas the more the car bucks and slows (only up the hill)
more gas going down the hill….no problem
restarting the car helps for a short while

I would appreciate your wisdom..... I don't know what to do anymore
Thank You

hey, I'd have to say fuel delivery problem, that's what it sounds like at first. But reading deeper into it, like the seasonal deal, I'm not too sure. But I would have the fuel pump, lines, fuel filter, all checked out.

escort stall problems

I had the exact same problem with my escort. Turns out that i had got stuff in my tank from bad gas. The pump would suck up the sediment and block the gas line. When the car got shut off it would release the presure and the sediment would fall away from the pump and the car would restart fine. change the filters in the tank and clean out the gas tank. My car runs like new now

Re: 97 Escort, sporatic heat problem on hills

I agree with both replys but i knew of a ford tempo that did the same thing and come to find out there is a sensor or a relay that if it gets hot it will stop the singnal to the fuel pump this tempo was acting exactly like this post stated.
You could also try at home to be sure the throttle body is clean with some spray cleaner (I just posted how to do this in another post if you dont konw how) only reason Im saying that is the fact of its cheep and anyone can do it. Then if your brave try replaceing the fuel filter. If neither of this home tips work look into that sensor I was talking about but im afraid I dont remember the name of it but pepboys was able to find it and charged like 100.00 for the job.
