power driverside window repair

'95.5 Rodeo, power window would only go up part way. Took off the door panel and discovered window is operated by small diameter steel braided cable which had come off of the spool and become knotted, tangled and frayed. Obviously need to replace the cable but need to know where to get cable at fair price (no Isuzu dealers in our town) and how to go about installing it. Do I need to remove the whole unit from the door frame and reinstall and how does the cable wrap around the pully system? Appreciate any help.

You should be able to call an Isuzu dealer in another town and have them ship the part to you. You might have to remove the door panel of the opposite door to see how it goes back on.

I have a 95.5 and I had the exact problem you're having. I had to finally break down and go to the dealer *you know what that means... $$$. Anyway, I needed a driver side power window regulator. You're going to be hard pressed to find the cable only. You must replace the regulator assembly as it has all the parts already connected (minus the actual motor). expect to spend about $114 or so to replace it. If you can find a junker that has a good regulator then that would work too.

Cat Fuzz and Boodah - thank you for the reply. I didn't think of the obvious of looking at the other door. Duh! I was trying to find pictures of the assembly on the net but the graphics were so small I couldn't get much out of them. There's probably some way of enlarging them on this computer but I am not a computer wizard either. I believe the closest Isuzu dealer to my town of Redding, CA is Chico, which is about 90 miles away. I spent the weekend checking local wrecking yards, especially the cheaper ones like Pic 'N Pull and U-Pull-It (they had complete doors on sale for $17.05) but Rodeos are very scarce up here at the wrecking yards. One of the bigger yards could order a door for me but they wanted over $325. OUCH! Looks like I may have to end up ordering one from the dealer. Right now I've got the window wedged up in the closed position from inside the door panel but here in Redding the temperature got up to 109 degrees today and I sure wished I could have rolled down the window for a bit till the air conditioning kicked in. Anyhow, thanks for the tips. Much appreciated.

You're welcome. Yeah, once that cable gets off the pully and "kinks" or "knots" up, there's not need to even try to fix it, as it will surely come off again. Hey, good luck.

do you guys know if a swap front to back or diver side to passanger side is possible. Or are there 4 seperate assemblies?

desmarkus - I checked with the parts man where I could order my window regulator and he said each door had a different part number for the window regulator. This, he said, indicates the regulators for back doors and front doors and left and right side are each different. Cat Fuzz was exactly right about the price. $114.

oh well it was just a thought. I guess I might have to call the dealership, *SHUDDER*, I can't stand the thought of getting fleeced by those guys.
