Problems With Awd

I have been to two mechanics.. both of them say don't worry about the grinding sound you hear when you make sharp turns in my 93 Grand with AWD..in fact they tell me its normal..I have a hard time accepting the fact that Jeep would release a vechicle like that! I have heard people say that you can remove the front drive all together is that true. or is it better to have the whole thing repaired''

Hey guys, does it do it only after you drive it 15-20min? If so, soory to tell you this but you may have Transfercase issues.

As for the mechanics not recognizing it, that is standard. Few on this board have found mechanics that properly diagnosed the failing Viscouscoupling in the Transfercase. If you have the QuadraTrac you most likely have the 249. Do a search on "242/249 swap" or just "transfercase". Be sure you're sitting down, have cooler with beer and plenty of time. There are tons of posts on the topic.

btw, I had my 249 rebuilt in 2001 and then replaced 3 weeks ago.
