Need phone help!

I want to add a phone to my 2004 X5. My two options are either the traditional BMW CPT9000 (Motorola V60) phone, or the Bluetooth module.

Do any of you have either of these in your truck? If you do, what has your experience been like?

If you have the CPT9000, do you also have the voice activation module? If you don’t have it, does anyone know if you can still use the voice activation feature of the phone itself when it is in the cradle?

If you have Bluetooth, what is it like? Does it work well with the steering wheel controls? How is the reception?

Finally, has anyone installed either system himself or herself? I would like to try to install the phone myself. The dealer tells me that an antenna cord has to be run from the center console to under one of the bumpers of the car…

Any feedback anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated!

The cradle is flimsy on the cpt9000, lots of intermittent problems reported by our customers with it. You remove the rear bumper to install the antennae. the cradle plugs in, the wiring is already there. I have not done a bluetooth yet on one.

I installed the Bluetooth module disabled BMW assist and I use a Nokia 6310i. Be careful not all of the bluetooth phones have full function with BMW's bluetooth.

The install is a no brainer if you get the install kit. The main challenge is the instaltion of the pairing button. The sliding arm rest can make things a little difficult other than that everything is plug in.

You'll lose BMW assist but not a major loss from what I've seen. Good Luck

I ordered Bluetooth with my new X5 diesel. SUV's now one week old.

Can't say that I'm that impressed with Bluetooth. Initially, I had a stack of problems setting up. The pairing didn't work, I ended up replacing my mobile phone as it was a dud (SonyEricsson Z110). There seems to be a lot of errors with the activiation. At times I'll be on the phone and it'll drop out. Then a red LED will glow on the radio, and I have to reboot the phone, turn the engine on and off and it might pair after all that, or I'll have to go through the menu option on the phone.

The R/T button on the steering wheel doesn't do anything, I need to press the tel button on the radio if I want to make a call.

If I had my choice again, I'd go the hard wired cradle option.
