Junkyard I/C?

I'm trying to price up everything for turbo'ing a KA, and I've seen that alot of the cost in turboing is the Intercooler.

I was wonderin if it would be possible (and smart) to try and find an intercooler in a junkyard. they should be alot cheaper, but what about effiniency? and what size should I get?

I want to build this turbo setup the right way the first time, but I am still interested in saving money. so should I try and go for acheaper junkyard I/C or just bite the bullet and plunk down 800 dollars on a name brand intercooler?

Re: Junkyard I/C?

I havent gotten there yet, but I read an article of this guy who turboed his eclipse and he used the two small I/C from a 300ZX welded them together and had his own custom made I/C. You could go with that option, plus his I/C looked cool peaking out of the big mouth of the Eclipse.

did MKII Supras even have turbos? dunno how much power a 20yr old side mount would support. a MKIV would work but like SHO said the likely hood of finding one of those in a junkyard is... err... nonexistant.

Since people here are putting JDM engines in their cars, you could swap out your SR20 and put in a KA24, you'd be first ever to swap out a JDM engine for a USDM one. Well at least one of the few lol.
