Question HELP: Planning to build a section of Highway

Hi AF members,
DO you know the standard width of a single lane in a major highway??
For example, the 401, 404, and 407 in Ontario, Canada.
Thanks all.

If each car is roughly 8 feet wide. And to give room the width of each lane would be 10 feet. If it is a 3 lane road that is 30 feet roughly. I don't know what that is in scale though.

I don't think all cars are 8 feet wide though, minus maybe lamborghinis and ferraris. But, I think the lane width might be right, maybe a little more, maybe a little less. All roads are different!

Re: HELP: Planning to build a section of Highway

most main highways are wider then my 102" wide trailer
i would say around 106" or 110" wide
a 8 foot lane in 1/24 would be 4"
a 10 foot lane in 1/24 would be 5"
both size would be a little smaller for 1/25
your best bet would go out to a highway
and measure it

Thanks all of your measurements and calculations. They looks very good and reasonable. I may go out to make an actual measurement on a very early morning.

5 Foot wide emergency shoulders on each side, 6 Foot median (including the 2' shoulders), 10' wide lanes (x6), add it up. 76 feet, give or take a foot or two.
