new bike is gone

sad i just got my bike and i had an accident on the interstate..it was the best/worst day of ma life....i met some guys i didnt even no who all had bikes....everything was fine at first we rode around...it was the coolest thing ever....then we went back on the interstate and i was in the back....i let one guy pass me and the road turned and i didnt turn enough and went into the gravel....all i had one was a shirt and some sweatpants and ma helmet...i had a jacket..but like a ass i took it off cuz it was so hot in it....when i fell the first thing i wanted to no was how my bike was...the guys i was ridin wit didnt even no i fell....the helmet saved me cuz the first thing i landed on was my head....i ended up with some pretty bad road rash on ma arms and my right arm is alot worse...it looks like a gash....and ma shoulder is pretty bad too....man i just got the bike which hurts the most..it was a good day cuz i got to ride with other people it was like 8 of us....it was the most beautiful thing.....its juss ashame i had to fall....the guys i was ridin wit found out i fell and came to visit me in the hospital...and they left their number..i thought that was special....since they didnt even no me at all...thas what i like about bikers...they stick together...i called one of them the other day and he was part of a club called the wild bunch..and he was like yea man we got some mechanics with us and we r gonna help u get that bike back on the road....i still wanna ride...i juss think im a little scared of the interstate now...and i will always have on a jacket.....damn damn damn ma bike =(

That sucks. Don't worry about the bike, they can be fixed/replaced, its just your life and health that matter. It sounds as if you have not been riding much. The first few months riding are always the most dangerous. The more experience you get the better you will be.
Also, everyone crashes at some point. Any biker with a few miles under their belt who says they have not crashed is a liar or does not ride.

That sucks and sorry to hear about that but with a tshirt and sweats protecting you I have no sympathy. It is no doubt your choice to ride like you want but for a new rider there isnt a better place to put money then into some decent gear.

sorry to hear of your stack, but i agree with 'civic'. you should have been wearing the gear especially if it's a big ride on an interstate. at least your alive and telling us about it. and now you have a 'war' story to tell other newbies.

I didn't stack for 18 months and around 12000k's and that was a 'turn right from standstill and back wheel spun due to just being washed'

i think we will all go down eventually and need to ride accordingly but it can happen anytime. someone mentioned on a previous forum a friend who had ridden for shit loads of years and has never gone down.

You ought to be riding at your own pace, not trying to keep up with a bunch of riders you've never met before.

Sounds like you've learned a bit of a lesson... GEAR can't be beat.

I agree with Wolf, when you're first riding, don't try to keep up with others... if they are the kind of people you want to be around, they'll ride with you at a pace that is "appropriate" for you.

It is nice that they came to visit you, though. It really is cool to see how bikers can stick together.

Wolf it was only hot when i stopped and it was cold when i was riding..but i had took my coat off at the strip where it was nothin not slow moving traffic and i was burning up...i no i shouldve had it on..but u no how u try to be cool..espeically since it was my first bike...juss couldnt imagine that i would go down....and i had a 01 yamaha yzf600r ..it was so pretty i got so much attention....*sigh*...gota learn somehow....and by the way i didnt have like a regular motorcycle jacket..it was like this big thick ass leather jacket....thas y it was so hot....but also couldve prevented my injuries....and two of the guys i was ridin with were in a club called the wild bunch....said they had some mechanics they knew and offered to take a look at my bike and see if they can get it back on the road

Ok, even though I have never been on a motorbike, I can point out stuff you should have done:

1)Why the hell is your first bike an R6?!
2)Why did you purchase your bike before your gear?(even though you had no gear)
3)Do you really think that a jacket and a helmet will save you from everything?
4)If you think leather is too warm, why didn't you get one of those new textile jackets or whatever they are called?
5)And like the others, why the hell were you riding beyond your own pace with your brand new R6?!

It's people like you that make bikers look like jackasses, raise insurance rates,....etc.

Before you go out riding again, do us all a favour, and buy all the best equipment you can find, and take the MSF course if you haven't done so yet.

AutoNewb, he wasn't riding a R6, it's the much tamer cousin, YZF600R. Although some people wouldn't recommend it as a first bike, but I suppose it's more forgiving. You can see only last week or so, he purchased the bike:

Anyway: some common sense newbie tips that I myself find it sensible and others recommended:

If you're learning to ride, stay the hell away from interstates and freeways. That's where most fatalities occur, even for the experts. And get a used bike, when it falls... it falls!

Got a gear? Good. Always wear it. No point it spending that much and not wear it because it's summer, etc, etc. Full leather jacket is a lot better than mesh in terms of protection. Helmets are of course a must, though many don't follow the rules, and have their carcass lifted via helicopter. Some may have reservations with wearing leather pants, so find the strongest fiber material as a substitute. Though having one just in case is a good idea. During summer, finger-less gloves could be worn at your discretion, otherwise expect terrible road rash if you fall.

And lastly, if you're learning to ride, dont bother using your bike as a main motive of transportation, get a car first! Do not ride in the rain. And have your headlights always on during the ride.

Damn it, I read wrong, I thought it said YZFR6 or something like that. Whenever I see the letters YZF, I always seem to expect it to be R6 or R1

YZF-600R and YZF-R6 are the two models.

Good bike choice, wrong gear choice. I mean seriously... sweatpants?? Why not even jeans? At least they'd provide some sort of protection.

yea i know i fucked up big time...no need to keep poundin me with it...my legs were fine though..even tho i was wearing sweatpants.....i just got my bike back and the right side is really scratched up.....my tank has a dent in it.....my front rim looks cracked ...ma handle bars are bent/broke and one of my folks is bent a little...i heard that is the worse....does anyone know how much something like that is gonna run to get fixed......i know i may be better off buying a new one..but i juss wanna off hand guess or estimate

you mean bike's forks are bent right?

anyway, I am not sure how much it'll cost, but call those guys up and see, I doubt it will cost up to $3.5K. Eitherway, the last thing you want is buy another new bike to fuk up on.

Do you have insurance? The scratched fairings and dented tank are nothing, they just add character to the bike. The replacement fork and front wheel are gonna be some money though.

all i had was liabitity...full coverage was gonna be a little over 6000 a year...i thought about me hittin someone or someone hittin me i juss didnt think about me just plain falling off....im gonna get it fixed tho...i miss it so much already =(
