exhausting

anybody know if you can hook up a ported 1g manifold with a ported evo 8 O2 housing and an apexi n1 downpipe on a 2g gsx with a 7 bolt but soon will be swapped for a 6 bolt. and any suggestions to anything that would work better than that set up.

Re: exhausting

That will all work. The 1g manifold is a piece though, I would suggest the 2g or EVO3.

Re: exhausting

The N1 DP must not have slotted holes then. Actually I should know that, I use Apexi flanges all over my exhaust You will need to slot the holes in the flange.

RRE offers a DP made specifically to mate with the EVO3 O2 housing. Its about 230 bucks, so it may save you some coin too. The angle is also changed slightly so it clears your oil pan. Now that scotsee made me think about it, I would only run the RRE downpipe with the EVO3 O2...

Wait a minute..., What catback are you going to use? If it has a full 3" flange the RRE DP will bolt right up. If it goes back to the shyte stock sized flange (bolts to stock cat) your hosed.

Re: exhausting

i was gonna have a shop customize the rest of my exhaust from the downpipe back. probly use the n1 muffler. but i think the apexi n1 exhaust does have a 3" flange right? also will the evo manifold bolt up to both a 7bolt and 6 bolt because i want to swap this set up over to my 6 bolt when i get it.

Re: exhausting

nevermind i found all that on the RRE site. the apexi n1 does bolt up to the RRE downpipe and the evo mani botls up to the 7 botl and requires a little trim to fit the 6 bolt. anohter question though... what determines whether you need to use an external wastegate or internal??????

Yep, I think all Apexi 3'' catbacks use the same flange, which is what the RRE downpipes use. If you are going to use a custom catback and an N1 muffler, just make sure to buy the flange, which is available from RRE somewhere in the DIY Exhaust sections...

The turbo will make your decision as to which wastegate to use. You can use an internal wastegate on bigger turbos such as 50 trim Garrett's, but an external wastegate is going to give much better boost control on 20g/50 trim turbos and larger. What turbo do you want, and how much boost do you want to run? You almost have to read about all the wastegate quirks, like that you'll get boost creep trying to run low psi on an EVO3 16G with the regular flapper, but if you get the larger flapper you may not be able to run lower boost because it flies open...

Best to be specific with the turbo and make sure someone like Kevin gives it the OK

Re: exhausting

As for the custom stuff, I hope you have looked into buying the mandrel bends from RRE or jcwhitney instead of having them press bend the pipe.

Re: exhausting

If you search on RKO you can find a list of the parts I used on my exhaust. A 3" apexi flange, a straight section of 3" tubing (5 feet is just enough), 2 3" 45s, and the muffler. Thats it. Its all welded up, with one small crush bent "adjustment."
