Re: Credit Cards

My brother just went through all this. Was rejected over and over...finally American Express gave him a card. You'll just have to find one with an astronomical APR. And remember, you're never too young to have crippling debt...

Re: Credit Cards

3-5k!!!! Are you nuts? You will never get a limit that high in the first year, and why would you want to rack up high interest debt asap?

It's fairly easy to get credit cards these days. I had $40,000 in credit cards (not debt) by the time I was 19. Apply online with Discover, AmEX, Visa. Just try all of them, that's what I did and I have like 10 different credit cards.

Re: Credit Cards

SSN, address, income, the works.

I don't mean to be offensive but if you plan on getting a lot of credit just to mod your car, you're being short sighted and stupid. Interest is a killer and snowballs on itself very very quickly. Irresponsible credit card use will destroy you. Bankruptcy and all it's ill effects will haunt you for the rest of your life. Don't be dumb. Get a card, charge a few things, pay it off on time, don't carry a balance and for God sakes, spend within your means. Build credit slowly, and carefully. Find cards that reward you like Discover. It's worth it in the long run. I'm one year shy of graduating from college and I've accumulated the credit necessary to purchase a house as soon as I graduate.

Re: Credit Cards

Probably not. Every app I've ever seen or filled out asks for the SSN.

Re: Credit Cards

$3-5000 limit huh? Right...
At first, you'll probably only be able to get a limit of $500 with no past credit. It'll probably take 1.5-2 years to get a $5000 limit if you use the card and make payments which are more than the minimum. It's best to pay off your balance every month.

And yes, you do need a ssn.

Re: Credit Cards

Is there a reason you don't want to give them a SS#...are you a fugitive?
