Struts...best ride for the money

I'm going to replace the front struts on my Dodge Gran Caravan Conversion (a little heavier than usual) and would like to know which are the best bang for the buck. But sinse I'm in a budget, I'm looking at prices first, but I don't want to compromise too much on the ride feel. Anyone could help me? Thanks in advance for your help...

Re: Struts...best ride for the money

Anyone has had any experiences with Gabriel struts?
I can get the Gabriel Ultras for $40.88 a piece at AutoZone and was wondering if they're worth a shot.

Re: Struts...best ride for the money

I can tell you what happened to me. I used aftermarket Monroe and Gabriel struts and both are not correct for a Grand Caravan.. The front end will bottom out.. The struts are too soft and will not hold up the weight. ( only one model showed up in the computer system for pepboys and Autozone).

I strongly suggest you purchase OEM struts from Mopar. They have a std and a "firm" model. I suspect you will want to use the firm HD model.
The price is not too much different.
Take a look through this website for price comparison.
newmoparparts.com

A couple other people reported the same result after installing aftermarket struts (do a search). You may get lucky and it works out for you, but I will replace the struts for the third time very soon. It would have been cheaper to go OEM from the beginning.

Re: Struts...best ride for the money

Hmmm... thanks for the input, I'll take your info into consideration and also check how much the OEM go around for.
I've been trying to search for any sites with info on struts, like price, performance, durability and customer response comparisons between brands to help me make a better decision. Something like what www.tirerack.com does for tires, but all I get are sites selling strunts.
Anyone has any links to share?

Re: Struts...best ride for the money

UPDATE:
I did go for the KYB Struts and all I have to say is WOW, I'm impressed!
First, for the price you can't go wrong, I was able to buy the KYB GR-2 Struts and Shocks for $146 If I would've gone with the Monroe SensaTracs It would've been $130 just for the Struts. Big gain there!
The Ride (smooth), Feel (quiet & soft), Comfort (like a caddy) and Response (firm & precise) on this Struts is amazing, I definitely recommend them.
