CD player installation on '00
Hi,
I would like to install a new CD player in my 00’ protege and I'm a bit confused about the car's wiring.... they do not match the CD player. I'm going to install a SONY CDX3300 and the wires on the unit are as followL black = ground yellow+red = +/-12V 2xGreen = left/back speaker 2xWhite = Left/front speaker 2xPurple = right/back speaker 2xGray = right/front speaker on my protege, i have 2 existing plastic connector. one has 2 brown and 2 green wires the other has 1 red, 1 yellow, 2 black, 1 white, 1 green and one pink. plus, there’s the ground plus the antenna. Can any tell me what the signification of color of the protege wiring is?? i don't what to blow up my CD player.... thanks! |

deck removal?
I'm a few steps behind you. I have a '00 Protege and I want to remove the manufactured CD/radio. I can't even figure this out. Any tips on how to pull out the old deck to put in my own CD player?

I'm with ya there ultiMike. I too also would like to remove the factory stereo in my '01 so I can hook up my amp but I guess I need some DIN tools to stick into the holes/slots on the sides. Look into that or just take it to Car Toys of Circuit City. I think that's what I'm eventually gonna end up doing. How's your stereo? I have a factory CD player in mine and it seems to be a piece of crap. It skips all the time.

Re: CD player installation on '00
I just bought my Protege used and from the the get go I wasn't impressed with the factory CD. YES, it does skip! And there were some CD's it wouldn't even read. DIN tools or something similar is necessary...I just used a coat hanger. Cut it into two pieces and round it into a U-shape. Then fit it into the two circles on each side of the radio. It's a bit tricky but a couple goes will try. If you use a small flat-head screwdriver, you can pop off the two black covers, these are found on each end of the radio!
Good luck. |
