speaker cover removal

Howdy,

Does any one know how to remove the round vented speaker covers from a 1996 Metro. I have tried to pry them off but seems they are screwed on from the inside of the door panel.

Also 3 of the 4 speakers do not work. Any suggestions on how to track down the problem?

Thanks

Okay, frist thing, don't pry on that plastic grill, it is screwed in from the otherside of the door panel. To get at the speaker you have to remove the whole interior door panel, takes about 5 mins.

1. Remove the manual window crank: The crank is held on by a C-Clip, so you got to remove that first, you can get a tool to do it for like $2, or with a little bit of skill you can slide a towel behind the crank on the open side of the C-Clip and pop it of that way.

2. Remove all screws: There is only like 3 of them, one by the door latch/lock, and 2 behind covers in the door handle.

3. Carefuly pop off/pry off the interior door panel: It's held on by like a dozen plastic clips.

Now the speakers are actualy screwed into an incloser attached to the door. This sounds like alot of work, but honestly only takes like 5 minutes and the most annoying/difficult part is getting that stupid C-Clip off. Now I have not tried to remove the rear speakers yet but I am sure you'll need to pop off all the molding starting at the front doors.

Re: speaker cover removal

I'll take up where he let off.Take your door sill molding off.Now there is a push in type retainer.Push the center of it in and it will pop out.Pull on the front edge of the quarter trim panel,it will pop off.You only have to pull the front part of the trim panel up cause you will have enough room to get to the speakers.
