Turbo lag

Hey, I've searched and asked for a while now but I've never been able to get estimates on how long the turbo lag is on some turbos and since I will be using this to choose which turbo to get I was wondering if you guys could give me an estimate on how long each turbo below will take to kick in. I really have no idea how long it will take because I have never seen any numbers for turbo lag. I was sort of thinking about 3 seconds for a 16g but I may be wrong, hope it isn't a lot more.

-Small 16g
-Evo 3 16g
-20g

Re: Turbo lag

it is measured by what RPM you will hit full boost, not by time. i'm pretty sure that the 16g's are in the mid to upper 3k range and the 20g is in the low 4k range.

Re: Turbo lag

Exactly. Oh and don't pick a turbo based on lag, unless you are racing autox. 16g's are THE original street DSM turbo.

Re: Turbo lag

The new 16g EVO turbo will have the best spool up and is reasonably priced too. A 20g needs some pretty hefty supporting mods. The big 16g is a bit slower on spool up than the regualr 16g and really doesn't do a whole lot better at the track.

Re: Turbo lag

Shoo, for the money you'd spend on a T28, you could spend a few more dollars and buy an evoIII 16g! Don't get me wrong, the T28 is a very nice turbo compared to the stock T25, but it's a bit overpriced, IMO =)

Re: Turbo lag

In my expereince, 14b is 3000, 16g is 34-3500, TDO6H 20g is 3800 (to 25 psi), and a TDO6H-65 trim is 4400. It depends somewhat on mods and tuning, and what boost you are trying to reach.

Upgrading a t25 to a t28 is like going from a 14b to a 16g. There is some to be gained there, but not worth the cost in either case, IMO.

Re: Turbo lag

you can pick up a t28 really cheap from the internet and it just a bolt on part, no manifold changes.. thats why i say the T28 is the best bang for the buck

Re: Turbo lag

I agree joe. You can get a new Evo III 16g for like 500 and run the same if not better than the T-28. 700 is alot for a T-28 for the gain you get from it. Go Evo III or 16g.

Re: Turbo lag

i'll sell you a t-25 for 500 bucks!

that is only 3 points lower than a t-28 and for 200 bucks less!

what a deal!

Re: Turbo lag

700 bucks??? buying from Mitsu maybe

ive priced a couple T28s and the best price ive found so far is 400$

but you guys are right about spending a little more for the bigger turbo. alot more gain after its all said and done but for the quick cheap upgrade, T28 all the way

YEAHHUHH!!
