Question What kind of exhaust?

I'm stumped still. I'm not sure what kind of exhaust to get. I was looking into the greddys. PE and SP. What i'm looking for in an exhaust is some decent gains and nice hum. Not a whine, or cracking, or crazy loud exhuast that mkaes me have to turn my music up so i can hear it. I guess i just want to know what other people have and how they sound. Sound is most important to me because i can't stand some exhaust sounds and if i dish $600 dollars out i want something nice. I havea DC header if they makes a difference. Thanks guys

ZOOM NOT BOOM

For a normally aspirated 4 I suggest a custom job with 2 and 1/4 inch system.
If you go any bigger the exhaust will start pounding.
First get a fast flow cat and a straight through muffler (mine is a 2 1/2 inch Muffler) with twin tips, they seem to flow great and restric noise a little better.
Brand names are up to you. I have a 3A Racing one in Oz could be something different there but it has fibreglass packing in the body and the tips and sound great .

Plus get mandral not press bending pipes.

All the best

good luck finding a place for true mandrel bending. most muffler/exhaust shops don't do mandrel bending. i have yet to find one in two states. they can bend the pipes with no creases but the diameter of the pipes are smaller at the curves, which is not mandrel bent. in mandrel bending, the diameter of the pipe is consistent throughout. if you already know this, then nevermind.

if all you care about is just sound, i would suggest just putting on a universal muffler and save yourself some cash. an exhaust system alone will give you very minimal gains. but a good intake, header, and exhaust combination will give you some more power. i have a custom CAI, DC header, and the apexi n1 cat-back which looks nice and gives decent gain at high end, but it is relatively loud to other systems.

yea i don't think anybody does that kind of bending around here. I have a pretty decent set up already i just wanted to finish it off. I have AEM CAI and DC header, i think i might go with the greddy SP instead of the PE. PE is big and loud. However, i'm still open to anyones opinions

I've heard good things about the Apex'i N1 and the Tanabe Racing Medalion. Those are the two I'm trying to decide between. I like the straight through design, and the fact that they have silencers (although I've heard they don't work that well)

buy pre bent mandrel J or U bends and build your own exhaust

i recommend Thermal R&D exhausts... and so would fritz cuz i got the info from him.

i have one and enjoy it. not loud to piss people off, but flows better and has a nice, deep tone unilike most of the japanese brands.

I guess my Mugen falls under that "unlike most of the Japanese brands".

Well fellas

About the mandral bending. In Melbourne there are over 20 places that do mandral bending (not press) sorry if you boys have it a little harder.

Is it true that a Mugen exhaust system will give more power and torque over the full range on a 5th gen Lude (according to King-Motorsports)? And is this system street and smog legal in the states?

Does anyone have any pics of the Thermal R&D exhaust? I went on their website and I didn't really see any. Also are there any other exhaust systems that aren't really loud, but still gives sufficient gains?

It's hard to beat Thermal R&D for the price or the performance.

well I want to get a Thermal R&D, but I also want one that looks not stock. And I just want to see the Thermal R&D. Also there's 2 models, the stealth or the classic. Which is better? Or better for my car at least.
