Funny Idle......., not so funny :( eh!

Thank you for your help with my cooling fault...... I bought it, I think I fixed it, I'll report the outcome when i get her on the road.........

I've been lovin on this beater (apologies to the true enthusiasts) for three afternoons now, and when I return to idle from a higher rpm I have an acute lull that quicky recovers.
TRANSLATION: I seem to idle about 800 RPM. When I release the accelerator, I drop to say 1050 RPM and then it falls to 650 recovers and settles back at 800. Kinda like its "hunting"

I hope I won a Chiltons on E-Bay yesterday but at this point I dont have any specs or knowledge other then what you fine people gift me with...

Is 800 Revs about normal for idle?

My ignorant guess (and I mean guess) is possibly a fuel pressure dampner?????? Is it an engine driven fuel pump (mechanical) or some electric magic tube/pump that the german$ are awfully proud of...... I dunno

>>>> Under my name up there on the left it says "Newbie"... Thats an under statement! <<<<

I have a good theoretic understanding of the combustion process, and am a pretty good parts changer....... When it comes to this German Engineering, I'll be a while catching up

Everyone, Have a Great Day!

Kurt

yeah that sounds like what hes talking about to me too, (i had the same problem that was easily fixed by adjusting the 2 idle screws) but on the fr. wilk page, it says only early models had that problem, not later or euro models. i dunno.

The fix works on the laters as well. I'm not sure about the euros though.

Re: Funny Idle......., not so funny :( eh!

Thank You for the link, That does sound like the symptom and I understand the repair.

It seems like I might sacrafice fuel economy.... not that I can tell without the odometer working...

Ben, I have access to the equipment and I'll repair the A/C myself. It seems to have been R-134'd ---I hope that whoever did it knew what they were doing and did a good job. If its suspect I will end up replacing many dollars worth of parts or go without.

I do need to know which of the two sensors at the receiver dryer is the low pressure compressor cut off switch so I can jump it out and charge through the suction port.
