'90 Silverado OVERHEATING BAD!!!!
The problem has been going on now for about 6 months...I have only drove it now for about 6 hours in that time frame due to the problems i have listed below.
I have replaced the following: thermostat, temp send unit, temp gauge on top of the intake, h2o pump. It will idle at about 200-210 but if i rev up the engine it begins to jump past 210 to about 230 or 260 and just keep on going up. HELP ME PLEASE!! |

Re: '90 Silverado OVERHEATING BAD!!!!
There are more things that could be wrong. Blocked exhaust (bad cat or muffler), fan clutch or even a bad radiator cap or blocked radiator. The gauge could be bad or even your "new" thermostat, I had that happen to me on a Autozone special. Something else would be the gasket on the water pump was put on incorrectly or slipped during installion blocking the water ports. Had that happen once too. Pull the thermostat out totally and see what happens.

the water pump could not be closing the holes because i can look into my radiator and see the water flowing in a circular motion and i have flushed my radiator out and would drink out of it now...would timing cause a motor to overheat??

Advancing or retardng the timing will affect temperature.

is there white "smoke" coming from the exhaust? take off the oil filler cap and look inside. is there white foam there? if so,you may have a blown head gasket, which will definatly cause overheating.

Re: '90 Silverado OVERHEATING BAD!!!!
As a cheap fix you could buy stuff called "wetter water" is a small bottle of racing coolant avail at major parts stores (ie pep boys), just add it to the exsisting fluid and it will NOT allow you to over-heat, but it does limit the amt of heat you get in the winter. This stuff is only coolant, so you will need anti-freeze mixed with it if it gets cold out.

Re: '90 Silverado OVERHEATING BAD!!!!
if the fins in you radiator are blocked or bent that can cause major over heating. i had mine caked full of mud and when running it sat at 225. if it has mud or something in it just take a hose and spray it from the inside out. if there are a lot of bent fins then the air will never pass thru very good and it wont cool so you may have to purchase a new radiator.

My vote goes to the clutch on the fan.
