95 escort steering tough
Our 95 escort steering seems like it doesn't have power steering anymore. The power steering fluid is at the full line and there is no leaks. Any ideas what it might be?

Re: 95 escort steering tough
I agree, the pump must push fluid through a closed circuit in order to supply boost to the steering. You will need to replace the pump. Be sure to flush or replace the lines too and fill with the proper fluid if you do it yourself.

Thanks for the info! Is there any way to tell for sure that the pump is bad?

Re: 95 escort steering tough
Disconnect the return (low pressure) line and plug the tank side. Put the line into a container above ground level and have someone start the car for about 5 seconds. If it rushes out then the pump is good. If it trickles then there is a problem elsewhere. Also, with all lines connected the pump with make a slight noise when the wheels are turned. I know that the Escorts did have a problem with the rack going bad prematurely but I don't think that is your problem. I agree with everybody who said it is your pump. Primative but it works.
