Post 85 honda crx 1.5 hf

ok here is the deal i just got my hands on a 85 crx which I have fallen in love with the ride and the handling is awesome. when i bought the car it had a blown head gasket or a crack in the head which just got worst till i figured out what was wrong with it. well now the head it totalled which from what i hear is common in that model due to the hot spot in between cyl. 2 and 3 so here is my thing. I dont like carbs. never got along with them. so i want to go to a multi point efi i can get my hands on a 87 or 89 accord 1.9 multi im just wondering besides the under the hood wiring which ill take off the accord is the anything else im going to have to switch like under the dash or the axles? ive only had this car for a few weeks so im in process of fixing body as well and doing some interior stuff. its a michigan car so if any one know about rust spots on them get a hold of me to ive found 6 so far that go all the way thru. this is a total project and when done im going to post pic of it also. thanks guys and girls.

Re: 85 honda crx 1.5 hf

i also have the option of a duel carb and another single. all right about the same year +/- 2 years i think which would be better and better to put in either horse wise or handling cause i dont want to change the handling if at all possible unless to make it better

Re: 85 honda crx 1.5 hf

ok, it's kinda hard to follow everything there but i get the picture that you want to put the accord motor in your crx, well it won't work. the only motor (other than a civic/crx motor) that will mount is the 1.6L 16 valve D16A1 from the 86-89 integra, 113 hp in the 86-87 model and 118 hp in the 88-89 model. check out the links in my sig for some more helpful info

Re: 85 honda crx 1.5 hf

that's some grey area, i think the head bolts line up but the oil channels do not or something, a few months ago someone over at www.redpepperracing.com tested this out, i'm not sure if he as it running yet or not. the other issue is the dohc timing belt tensioner and everything involved with the duel cams is also a complication. if you are looking for an easy swap that's not it.

Re: 85 honda crx 1.5 hf

it's a 1.6L 16V DOHC, there is no 1.5L 16V engine in the 84-87 era.

Re: 85 honda crx 1.5 hf

also sorry bout that it is 12 v with axilery vavles not a true 16
see i think someone did some work on this vehical before me and either switched motors or just heads when i got this car the head was 3 teeth out of time also so i know head has been worked on or changed.
so i need to get back to the origanal head for this motor or go to the d16a1 swap i want to switch motors but dont have money so like to get head for above motor in my car. let me know what will fit please

Re: 85 honda crx 1.5 hf

the head on your car right now has 12 valves plus 4 CVCC valves. the only heads that fit are civic/crx heads. if you look at the list of honda motors in my sig and scan down to the ones that start in "EW" or "D15A", those are what you are limited to as far as head swaps go. your two best options if you want to go with the head replacement route are to either get the head off the Si model and continue using your carb or go with the canadian EW2 head. if you go with either of these setups and use your carb intake manifold you will have to modify it slightly to let the CVCC ports flow into the main intake channels. the reason these two are better is because they do not have the extra CVCC ports, the CVCC system is for emissions and does not improve performance at all.

Re: 85 honda crx 1.5 hf

Use the Canadian head, the Si head will lower your compression too much. Then switch to a weber carb.
