S13 overheating
Silvia S13 overheating....HELP!!! I live in Japan and have a 1990 Silvia S13 CA18 non turbo right-hand drive that suddenly overheated on me today. There was no leak under the car, steam or the smell of coolant prior to this. However, upon open the radiator, it was nearly dry. replaced the coolant and inside of 10km it was hot again. I refilled it and left the cap off and let it run in case there were air bubbles behind the thermostat and to also check and see if the the water pump was working. well there were plenty of bubbles and warm (not hot water) would pulse gush out of the radiator. The upper hose was also very hot to the touch. Upon shut down (with the cap off) the coolant seemed to leak back down, but I can't seem to see where it could be leaking out. Could it be coming from the heater core in the center console and leaking under the car in some way that I cannot see? If the thermostat were stuck close, the water would have to be going somewhere, but where?
Anybody out there have a clue or have experienced this. I have owned many cars and have had overheating probs that I solved myself quite easily, but this one has me stumped. Can someone please help? Also, does anyone know where I can get an English language manual for this car? |

Re: S13 overheating
Mine did that as well, then when I removed the thermostat it went away. (I have the US spec motor, but your problem is the same, so my answer should do you good)

Re: S13 overheating
the thermostat should do the job, otherwise it's time for a new car, lol
