Need some help with my box
I just want to make sure if i build a box with a volume of 0.88 that my Image dynamics IDQ 10 D2 V2 sub will sound right in it. I tried using that winisd program but couldnt figure it out. Recomended space for that sub is 0.30-0.60 cu ft. If the box is bigger than the recomanded specs does that really mater? i know to small does. But 0.88 empty should be around the specs once the sub is in right?

Re: Need some help with my box
in my experience, putting a subwoofer in a box larger than it's intended destination will provide a steeper response curve in the low frequencies (40 - 70Hz), but offer VERY muddy punch bass (100 - 200Hz), it loses it's ability to provide a nice flat response. I accidentally built a box a little too large for my Kicker 12" but it's a very nice box so I'm going to experiment with spray adhesive and accoustic panels on the inside of the box to reduce the internal volume. I know materials like Fiberfill and Fiberglass Insulation can fool a speaker in a smaller box by reducing rebound waves, but I'm contemplating using a dense 5/8" cardboard type material designed for recording studios.. I think it will do a good job of reducing internal volume.

Re: Need some help with my box
You can always add just plain old MDF or particle board to the inside of it. Anything inside the enclosure is reducing the internal volume. When I want to experiment with enclosure size I build one that is much larger than specs and reduce it from there with calculated pieces of wood. I have even used chucks of 2X4 to do so.
