WARNING:"Modified Exhaust" tickets aren't just fix-it tickets!

Yes, got pulled over today. Cop tells me to fix my modified exhaust, and got it checked by the CHP. they gave me an approved stamp, and told me to go to supreme court to clear it. When i get there, supreme court tells me that a "modified exhaust" ticket isn't a fix-it ticket, so it's on my record, and fines me $160. I told them i got approved by CHP, and he says "they don't know what they're talking about." As being the SUPREME COURT, he can over-rule them and did just that, and said $160 fixed or not i have to pay. Damn, has this happened to anyone? or did the dude at court just screw me over?? how did you solve your case for a "modified exhaust" ticket?!

I don't think he meant The Supreme Court, I think he meant the highest court in his area.

well I assumed he didn't mean the national supreme court or whatever its called, but even a state supreme court seems kinda high up for that type of ticket.

haha, Superior court, people.

Anyways, one of my friend's got popped for the same. Got it test and all that. I'd go back and demand they SHOW you proof of this, because according to stuff I have, if you go to center and get it stamped, signed off and all that, you just pay the minimal processing fee which is $10-$25 depending on the jusrisdiction. Making you PAY for it is against the what the law about it states. But they may have revised it since it was written some years ago. Also a provision of the law specifically states the law is the SAME statewide, and NO local authority has the right to alter or change the law for a specific city, unless explicitly authorized to do so by the state leaders. So unless the court/judge can show you IN writing from a CVC book that this is in fact true, then they CANNOT make it a non-fixable violation by law. And CHP typically will know MORE about these kind of laws than local city cops, Sheriff and possibly even the courts.

and i also didn't wanna challenge it cuz i had past experience with a judge and he's also just looking for the money. that's what everyone wants these days. i keep asking myself, "shouldn't cops go againt peoples that do crime instead of harassing innocent people who make harmless, little mistakes?!" sorry just hate cops right now! has anyone out there ever gotten just a "fix-it" ticket for a modified exhaust? or is it just in cali?

Re: WARNING:"Modified Exhaust" tickets aren't just fix-it tickets!

In oklahoma they have a law that covers sound systems as well as exhaust parts. If the officer says you are "disturbing the peace" or if someone complains about you, the minimum fine is $280 each time and there isnt any way out of it. its just a way for the department to make money. it sucks.
