Tranmission Issues

This is a doosey. 4 weeks ago I brought my '95 (132k) into for an SES prompt. While there, the dealer talks me into getting my tranny flushed ($167). I agreed as it had been at least 50k since the last flush. The next week the tranny does not come out of low - while on the highway. Limped it to the dealer for him to fix. ($900.00). Picked it up last Friday, today tranny making loud clanking sound while shift from Park to Drive and to Reverse as well. Nasty loud. Once the car got going it 'bucked" when moving from one gear to the next. Needless to say it is now at the dealers' waiting to be fixed (again). When I called them on the phone and told them the new problem I mentioned that all the tranny issues began with the flush of 2 visits ago. The SMgr told me that when high mileage cars get a flush and the guk is removed, along with the old fluid it sometimes affects the performance of the part. WTF! Anyone been down this path before??

Sounds like a good reason to believe the DIC when it says 100% life left on the transmission fluid.

I don't beleive anything good ever comes from a tranny flush. Drop the pan, magnet will have a bunch of "stuff" on it clead it up, check/clean the screens and refill with fluid. Re-use the steel gasket.

Sounds like you have a speed sensor problem now. Hope they fix it without wanting even more money.

My car shifts hard from park to reverse. Then the SES light comes on and the car jumps between gear shifts. However, at the same time that this jumping occurs, the steering becomes difficult.

Is this the speed sensor or is it something else?

Yeah, unfortunately that sounds *just* like the turbine speed sensor trouble I had. Brace yourself for another $1200 repair bill. That little sucker is inside the transmission about halfway down. Part of that at least is them replacing some other solenoids inside there while they have it apart, but it's still $700 labor. I had a private tranny shop do it FYI. The code from that SES light should be for an input speed sensor if this is the case.

Good luck. Maybe you can talk the service manager into taking pity on you. Or then again maybe the service manager spiked your tranny fluid with brake fluid to drum up a little business with all your problems...
