Re: need ideas and help

if you like the look chopping the top is a good idea, once the top is chopped you will either have to reshape the windows or make new ones to fit

depends on how much work you want to do, and your level of committment... as dag said, it'll take some adjustments on other parts as well

Re: need ideas and help

Excuse me, but after reading the previous thread I opened, I just can ... You're coming at the right time!!!

Chop top can be a good idea, but if you're new to modeling you must know it's not easy to do! There must be an "how to" for this on the forum sections... read it! And if you have extra time and money, just try it, if you can afford!
To fit the chop top, you'll need bigger chromed wheels too, I feel. And a metallic candy paint...
But I would suggest you did it box stock (without modification), and then buy another and try new things on it. Just to take the time to be sure you can achieve an acceptable result.

...

I just saw your first model's thread: nice! So I tell you: just do it! Metallic Purple, lowered, and with nice 19" Aoshima wheels! Keep us updated!

The windows in the kits are usually pretty thick and brittle so carefully sanding them down might be a better idea. And if that doesn't work try making some from some acetate

Yeah that sounds like a real good way to make a nice accurate cut!
Safe one too!

Re: need ideas and help

For the windows I suggest making a posterboard template, trace it onto some clear styrene, cut it out, and work on some shaping. Somebody asked how to make windows in a thread a couple days ago, somebody had a great idea there.

Sarcasm my friend, no the lighter idea is not a good one.
You muht look around the house for a box with a clear lid on it. Some have nice very clear thin plastic that works great for windows, follow Mikes idea and you are set

The lighter will just bubble and burn the plastic. You need a controled heat source because there is a very fine line between melting and burning. All the plastics are injection molded. Its not going to work very easily, especially with clear plastic.

Yes and once that line is crossed you have a nice ooey gooey burning mess, have a few nice scars from doing crash and burns with my neighbors models when we were kids, once one of those burning globs gets on your skin its there for good OUCH!
