Hey guys, I have a question, I am going to be doing a transmission service in the future, but I want to know what you guys recommend. I would like to know what is the better service, I say it is the usual pan drop and filter change, rather than the fluid flush machines which I have noticed no filter change and have heared people complain about slippage. Yeah the pan drop changes only about 40% of the fluid, but from one of the longest running transmission servicers in the Phoenix area, that is really all you need for about 5 years. But I still question, so what do you guys think, I have 53180 miles on the Dodge Neon I own, bought it when it had 50,000.

I always do the filter and pan. Pretty good luck so far.

Re: Transmission Flush or Pan Drop
The most important thing is to drop the pan. Remember to clean the magnet in the pan and put it back.
You DO have a magnet in there, right? Lots of mechanics dont clean and reinstal, they just throw it away. A flush of the system is really only required if the fluid is heavily conaminated and/or discoloured. If you service the trans properly and change the fluid and filter every year or two, then leaving 40% still in there does not matter. |
