Full View F1 Kits I picked Up Today, Advice Please.

Hi

I picked these 2 up today and cant wait to get started on my first F1 kits.

The Williams kit includes some upgrade parts, carbon decal, PE etc so should make a nice full view model and a nice change for me.

The Ferrari however doesn't, can any of you guys recommend any detail kits for this car? If so, which is best etc, etc.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Richie

Try this one for detail kits for both the cars. http://www.scalemotorsport.com/default.asp

ScaleMotorSport has a detail set for the Ferrari but it is quite pricey at 95$, Also a set for the Williams at 100+

Are you going to do them all clear, or are you going to paint some of the bodywork? I haven't yet gotten around to doing a clear kit, but if I did, I'd be seriously tempted to do something like this:

(taken from http://www.cifesystem.com/)

Sure, you can leane the whole thing clear, but much of the interior of the car isn't detailed- I mean, what's the point of a clear empty nosecone? Also, if you leave an area clear, there's alot of additional stuff to scratchbuild, like the steering column and driver's petals.

Or...

You can paint most of the front of the car and decal as you normally would, and leave clear the engine cowl and anything else you want to display. This way, enough of the car is painted to make it look like an F1 car, but you still get to see the importaint innards. Just my own opinion, but I think this is a terrific way to do a clear kit!

Re: Full View F1 Kits I picked Up Today, Advice Please.

Thanks for the input guys.

MPWR, I have actually been thinking about doing what you suggested, with the Williams I may see if I can paint the front white as normal and use the decal that separates the blue and white a the separator between white and clear on one side with half of the rear cowl also clear.

At the moment I am desperately searching for any engine shots on the Williams to see if I can add anything there, alas no joy so far! Any help or links would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Richie

I am not into F1 so I don't have links or picture to show.
I just want to say that it is a great idea to leave only "interesting" parts clear.

Hi folks,

---edit---
I guess this is in the wrong place now that there are more pics but I thought it was better to update than start a new one, maybe if a mod sees it they can move it.
----------

It's been a while since I started this thread but I thought that I would puta few progress pics up. Its been pretty slow progress due to other non modeling stuff but here it is so far.

The idea is to have one side (right) painted as usual and the other clear with some detailing.

Note that I am aware that wires, tubes etc aren't accurate and should be black, but with all the carbon fibre etc, blue will stand out better for display purposes. Oh yeah, you will notice only one side is carbon decalled in places, this is because the covers wont be coming off as the other side is clear anyway, lazy I know!

It is simply awesome. The pics are superb. Is the CF decal from orginal Tamiya set? If yes, do you mind to give the CF decal sheet part # to me? THanks.

Thanks mate,

The part you need is number 1422256. It has templates for suspension nd other major parts plus a nice area left over which as used for the side pod and intake with some left for a few other things.

What you got there looks pretty good. Superb job on the decaling. Although I think the Tamiya CF has large weave though. Nevertheless keep up the good work!
