Short Throw Shifter
Hey you guys, (and apparently gals too!) How involved is it to put in a short throw on a 4th gen. I'm kicking around the idea of buying one. Can I pull this off by just removing the center console and unbolting stuff or is there way more to it than that. I have no real desire to rip apart my interior to see how hard it is to... well... rip apart my interior. Also I don't want to go out and buy a new shifter just to find out I need a hoist and trans jack to put it in. So I figured I'd ask you all first. Thanks.

Its no big deal at all, I put one in my buddies 2k Trans am. IMO the short throw shifter is soooooo worth the money. We put it in and I took it out and geve her hell. It almost wanted to make me touch myself
 Any way, the T-56 is a top loader tranny, no need to pull it, I took the center console apart just because I hate to work in cramped spaces. Any who, it was pretty much a unbolt, take the old one out and bolt the new one back up. One suggestion thought, get some ziplock bags and a piece of paper and keep track of the little bolts and nuts you take out.

Thanks for the tip. Is there any certain brands that are better than others. I was thinking Hurst but if anyone has a suggestion, I'm open. Damn It, Alright, I'll just ask, what brand would make me want to touch myself.

Hurst short throws are good I have one in my 96 SS (factory installed at SLP), it cuts the throw more than half and makes it feel positive... I also seem kits on ebay that remove the rubber between the metal so it's even better, or so they say.
