corvair valve seals
has anyone changed the valve seals on a corvair? What is the difficulty level? I have some white/blue smoke at startup and when accelerated. My guess is the valve seals. I am not a mechanic but if i have a book and some directions i should be able to figure it out, I know if I take it in it will cost an arm and a leg. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: corvair valve seals
If you're not mechanically inclined, I wouldn't suggest trying to do this. It's a LOT more involved than just pulling a cover and replacing a gasket. There are basically 2 ways to change valve seals. One way is to pull the cylinder heads and disassemble the valve hardware on a workbench and change the seals. The other way is on the car and involves pressurizing the cylinder with an air compressor fitting via the spark plug hole, disassemble the valve spring keepers and valve springs and replace the seals and reassemble.
