I have heard that if you replace the Aurora's factory radio with an aftermarket one, you lose the steering wheel radio conrols (a must have for me), and the date on the DIC. I am having a problem with constant error codes for the CD player, so to avoid losing features, I'd like to just add a CD changer, and just not use the in dash CD player. I was wondering if an aftermarket changer as opposed to a Delco changer, would also make me lose my steering wheel controls? Thanks in advance.

Re: Adding CD changer
I believe there is an adaptor for the steering wheel controls, but you will lose DIC features (date)..something I use for display constanly, anyhow, the car may be wired up for a trunk mounted changer.

If you keep the factory radio and add one of those FM changers that you just tune in on your radio you should be fine. The program and seek won't work with CD's but may still work for am/fm.
I took my radio out. I added an Alpine CDA-9835 and 2 12's. I lost all steering controls but I didn't use them anyway. I also lost date and a few other things but I leave my screen on mpg's anyway.

Re: Adding CD changer
So if I add a factory Delco CD changer, I shouldn't lose any features right? The DIC feature is one of the things that attracted me to the Aurora so I really don't want to lose that. If it's just the date it wouldn't matter to me.

If you have a factory cd deck in your car then I'm not sure how you would go about wiring to work. The FM type are easy. You might have to switch to the tape deck with changer control deck. Thats what mine was before I put in the Alpine. I am going to keep the deck incase I get rid of the car.

Re: Adding CD changer
I can't verify if the controls are already there or not.
There are lots of CD changers you can add even if you don't have changer controls already on the stereo though. I had one done in my old Grand Prix. It had a really f-ed up little square radio, then a separate slot for whatever you wanted in addition, like cd, tape player, or 8 track . The car stereo pace just cut a little hole in the flat plastic front nearby and mounted a small display and receiver for the remote that came with the changer. I had them set it up with the FM modulator. It just gets spliced into the antenna wire and plays on your choice of like 5 preset stations. They don't have to be all that expensive either. I got a nice 6 disc a loong time ago for $500. I know I've seen them for half that now.

Re: Re: Re: Adding CD changer
I have a 99 and put a factory changer in mine. I got it on ebay for 75 dollars. Before buying the one I got I checked with a G.M. parts guy I know and although the part number of the unit I bought wasn't what the dealer told me It works fine. After I found out it worked I called him and ordered the factory brackets The "program" button advances the discs for you and the seek goes up the tracks I think those are on the steering wheel.

Re: Adding CD changer
I would go for it!
Nothing more slick then browsing thru 12 CD's and never taking your hands off the wheel!

Re: Adding CD changer
Sounds interesting...does anyone know of a market for factory cd changers for the Aurora? I might consider putting one in my '98 Aurora.
