I have officially become one of those horrible people who dote on their pets hand and foot. Today I got my 16 year old cat back from a DECONTAMINATION FACILITY, where she had to remain for a week until she was no longer radioactive. No, this wasn't some sort of freak accident, we had to get her radiation therapy to cure some sort of thyroid condition. Keep in mind she is 16 years old. We spent 1000 dollars for this radiation treatment on a senile cat, and to my dismay, she doesn't even have any super powers as a result. She can meow incredibly loudly, but she's hardly going to topple any villians with that.

Anyways, maybe I'm just a softy, but this cat has been with us too long to let her die.

What is the most outlandish sum of money any of you have spent on a pet?

My parents hate my cat and I'm too poor to spend money on her. They only fork out when they REALLY have to.

I am about to have my cat neutered so I'm not sure how much that is going to cost.

My dad told me that he could save me some money. I said, how? He said, (in his redneck voice) "I will shove that cats head in a boot and cut his nuts out for you and it won't cost you a damn penny."

Ive spent almost $3000 on my dog only to give him up 3 months later 2 operations at a 24 hour emergency vet, those places are a rip off if i could have used the regular vet it wouyld have only been $1700.

I spent alot of money on my dog right before he died. Thousands, then after a couple of weeks, put him to sleep to put him out of his misery.

I didn't have to pay for it but my mom and dad spent 7 g's on our German Shepherd's hip, knee, and elbow surgery when he was 6 months old. We had to take him up to the vet school in Madison, WI. He's made a full recovery since and now attacks any living being that enters our property.

The most I have spent on my cat was when he had his claws removed because a deasease was growing on his claws. I spent about $500. Pretty much I take care of my cat. I have to give him a bath ever other month. And give him his flea medication.

im not a big animal person so i cant really understand why you guys fork out the cash like that on animals you give away, put to sleep, or just die on their own.

but, more power to you. only reason i see your points in doing this is love for your animals.

My "new" cat Chloe is 16, too. Adopted her 3 months ago when her owner was put into a home. Just spent 650$ on tests and antibiotics for the old girl. It's worth it, though- she's the most friendly, mellow cat...kinda like having her around.

The old woman named her Chloe 16 years ago...BEFORE it was trendy. All the girls at the vet told me it was "the cutest little name...tee-hee"!
