plug an electrical tester into the brake light socket or stud on the truck connector and check for voltage when the brake is depressed. If no voltage, then I would suspect a poor connection between the wiring harness on the truck and the brake light wires on the truck.

If voltage is present on the truck side of the harness, I would first check the trailer brake light bulbs and connections, and then check the trailer wiring harness for a bad connection or cut wire.

Also, don't forget to check the ground wire on the trailer harness for a good connection.

Good luck!

Re: No bake lights to trailer plug

Are you using a brake controller? Also check to make sure the jack is plugged in underneath the truck behind the trailer connector. Also, some trailer jacks have different pin outs. A horse trailer can be different then say a house trailer.

I agree. If all lights on the truck are working, then there is probably a poor connection somewhere else. One other strong possiblity is that you didn't get an adapter that takes into account that the truck has separate bulbs for the turn signals and brake lamps and the trailer uses a single bulb for both.

Good luck!

An easy way to identify whether the problem is in the truck or the trailer without checking the wiring is to fiond a buddy that has the dame hook up. Plug it in, if it works then it is your truck, if it doesn't then it is your trailer. Isolate the problem vehicle so you are not getting frustrated looking for somehting that is not there.
