Where can I speed? AZ, NV, TX?

Hey everyone... I'm taking a road trip with about 16 friends... we're going in four cars of four and planning on doing around 5600 miles in 6 days. We're only stopping twice a day for one hour at a time, and at two cities for 3-4 hours. Aside from that, we'll be driving the entire time and only stopping at "checkpoints" that we establish before we leave.

I'm wondering what areas in the country are best to speed... or where is the safest place to avoid traffic violations?

I'm from the midwest, and we don't have anything like plane/helicopters tracking our speed. I'd imagine one could just fly through states in the southwest, especially when you're in the middle of nowhere. If this isn't the case, I would love to know sooner than later.

I plan on having a radar detector and CB radio inside the car.

Also, are prepaid legal services worthwhile? I hear they only work in large cities like Vegas/NYC/LA, etc.

Prepaid services range from city level or state level, but I don't know of any that operatte on a national level except for commercial truckers. Most of the comm trucking groups have seperate service contracts in each state.

Some hinting helps:

Use your two best radar detectors in the first two cars. If it means giving someone else your $300 Valentine 1, DO IT! The car in front will get the clearest scanning area of all.

Try if you can to use instead FRS radios, the 5 mile ones. Get plenty of spare batteries. We used CB radios and found tons of interference on all of our selected channels. The FRS radios had clear signal, great reception for 4 miles of diff and were stealth! No big ugly antenna on a magnetic base to chew paint.

Have a list of multiple channels to switch to if you encounter interference on the channel you are using. ie if channel 5 becomes populated w/ others talking, everyone should know (from their list) to switch to channel 13 or so.

Excellent ideas about the checkpoints. Go further, 1) get towing phone numbers for all the areas your driving (in case someone wrecks)
2) Auto parts supply store locations (someones gonna break down in the middle of nowhere and no idea of where their replacement part may be had)
3) Hotel locations (someone will get stuck the furthest from home, happens most of the time)
4) keep thinking of shit to go wrong and prepare for it.

I don't know about those states, but 83's advice is good. You could just combine some of it and get AAA. Also as far as helicopters and such flying to track speeds. As far as I know, all they do is call down to cop cars if they see a car going significantly faster than traffic. Also, I have driven through plenty of zones where they have signs posted for this. My personal feelings, it is 99% BS. How much gas do they waste doing this...I guess if they are out to make alot of money that day, then possibly, just like a set speed trap with multiple cars...but chances are, nobody is flying around monitoring your speed. I think the signs are more of a deterant.
Also just realize that you can be prepared as hell and still get pulled over. With 4 cars, keen eyes and all the electronics, you odds are better, but still not perfect. I've been pulled over 10 times, about 75% of them I had my radar detector with me. It helps, but isn't perfect. If you're going to speed, be aware you may get pulled over. Especially if you don't know the area, and where the local cops tend to target most. As was mentioned, out of state tickets are a b!tch to fight.
You can be prepared, and it sounds like you are, but just realize, with that much driving, if you speed the whole time, that is alot of highway patrolmen you are going to pass, and it only takes 1 to give you a ticket. I'm not going to be hipocritcal though, and tell you not to do it, because I would do the same damn thing. So good luck, let us know how it turns out.
